Last year, almost exactly one year ago in fact, I hosted a tea party.
Fireflies danced on the walls.
Paper tea cups were made.
Crème brûlée was even torched.
I held this extravaganza not simply to entertain.
I did it because I wanted to create an experience of make believe made real.
Because I believe that change.
Healing.
Magic.
Can happen when we step into a world of another’s making.
And we are asked to accept that we are more than, perhaps, we thought ourselves to be.
I do this work in the Quests I create.
I wanted to see if I could do it live and in the flesh.
It was a wonderful affair in so many ways.
It showed me that I could, indeed, hold an event that potent and a joy.
This year, I wanted more.
I applied…and was accepted…to present my tea party as a piece in the Asheville Fringe Arts Festival!!
And I am so very excited.
Let me tell you a little about it…
Once upon a time…a long, long time ago…when the world was much younger than it is now, Ms. Ethel Green Volk Sparkwell was gifted a sparkle of fireflies. Like most everything in Ethel’s life these fireflies were different.
Unique.
Some might even say magical.
For one, these fireflies…the Stellalibre Lampyridae…live in books.
And they like to put on a show in the late winter.
Or early spring.
Wherever it happens to suit their fickle nature best.
In honor of her fireflies presence, Ethel was instructed to host a tea party and has done so every year since she received them for her 10th birthday.
Though Ethel has stepped fully into the adventure of death, the fireflies…and the tea parties…live on!
And we would love for you to join us!
Come and immerse yourself in Ethel’s stories and magic.
Meet her fireflies, her friends and all their wonders.
Fireflies in March takes place on March 21st and March 23rd for the Asheville Fringe Festival.
Both experiences will be held at 7pm at LEAF Global Arts (19 Eagle St, Asheville NC).
Tickets are $16.
You can can buy them here:

Over the next week, I will share more of Ethel and her treasures…so that even if you aren’t able to make it to the party, you will get to step into the world with me.
With love and fire~
Jo Anna
