It is when the leaves change.
And the light follows.
That the secrets buried in the springtime can no longer be ignored.
Many blame the wind.
Thinking it clears the vision.
Others fault the slow, seasonal chill that disperses the fog, making it all easier to see.
However, the truth lives in the rhythm of the days.
And the bone deep knowing.
That all will be harvested eventually.
Each year.
Just before the weather changes.
I am found by those seeking.
An incantation.
Or a spark.
Or something.
To keep that which was hidden.
Firmly in its place.
And each year, the words that spill from my lips are never the words that people want to hear.
There is no magic that will keep the living buried for long.
The only way.
Is to take yourself to a place where the earth is still soft.
Enough.
So that when you stand upon it.
It takes you within its heart.
Until you are deep under it all.
Under the roots and the wild and the known.
Then you must sing.
Your want.
Your ache.
Your fear.
Until that which you buried meets you where you are.
As you here.
Then you must sit.
Upon what is no longer even ground.
But everything.
Ever.
Sit.
And listen.
To the song that will be sung back.
Listen to every word.
Every tear.
Every cry.
Do not turn away.
Even when you think you have heard it all.
Stay.
Let the shard of memory.
Or skin.
Or life.
That maybe you hoped would never be seen again.
Be seen for the first time.
Fully.
Radiant in fear and fire.
Let it crawl upon your lap.
Resting its head against your breath.
Let it remind you of a truth.
That has been oft forgotten.
It is only that which you are willing to hold.
That can be freed from your grasp.
And then you must choose.
Whether you can.
Whether you will.
Or not.
There is no shame in being unwilling.
Unable.
To bring in what you wish to cast out.
You can say no and leave.
The secret will remain where it has been.
But.
In the long expanse of winter.
When a tendril, verdant and alive, reaches up from below.
Know.
That it will seek you.
Until are you are ready.
To set it free.
With love and fire~
