My favorite thing about Wish Night, other than that the market has a gumball machine of stars, is that it arrives as it is needed. There is something lovely about knowing that there are sacred moments that await us, just because they might be of service to us in this wild world we get to live in. For me, Wish Night opened a doorway to hope when I needed it, and for that I am very grateful.
I wrestle with the concept of hope.
Hope can make it easy for me to ignore the distressing reality that is before me. Yet, without hope I can’t keep sight of a future that can still be created. I don’t want to ignore what is and I don’t want to forget about what could be.
Hope must be rooted in tender space within…where we, by nature, open up the door to disappointment.
But we also open the door to possibility.
To have hope is to be vulnerable.
And to be vulnerable it is to be brave.
Wish Night helped me choose to be brave.
It helped me continue to choose a vision of a future where there is justice, peace, and wonder for us all.
It helped me choose to hope, even when it is hard.
Wish Night also helped me choose to do the work.
Wish Night is not simply a time to cast your wishes and hope they come true. In fact, when people left the market after writing down their wishes, they were given a book on how to make their wishes come true. Because it is not enough to wish. Not enough to want.
The stars hear our wishes and they send to us what is needed to help bring those desires to fruition.
Because the stars are not the magic.
We are.
We are the magic that brings the future to life.
We are the ones that hope.
We are the ones that create what is to come.
My wish is that all who celebrate Wish Night remember that they are the magic, so that they may hope, create and make it to what is next.
