{mythology ~ a beginning}

Once.
Before I knew who I was.
I followed a path of my own making to the edge of the woods.
And gazed through the bare trees.
Up.
At the moon, so very close to spilling out into the world.

There.
Under her light.
I made a wish.
Forgoing the stars for the one who pulls tides out of the ocean.
Knowing it was only her that could help.
Only her that would hear.

I asked to lose myself to the expanse.
To reach wide and wild into the corners.
And feel what could be.
If.
I asked to wind time around my breath.
And pull the fire into my bones.
Until I was made real.
Again.
Anew.

My eyes closed.
When they opened.
I was a breath.
An exhale.
Which I was not expecting.
As I thought that an inhale is where it would all begin.
But I had already begun.
So I was an exhale.
The extinguishment of a candle.
The fire gone just as I met it.
The smoke dancing with me.
Becoming me.
As I.
As we.
As I.
Rose to the ends and edges.
Nothing binding me.
To myself.
I was light.
Diffuse.
Nothing mattered.
The longing to be more than myself stopped.
If only.
For a breath.
I filled the space.
Of the endless dark.

The inhale tugged at me.
Somehow reaching me.
Even though I was nothing at all anymore.
I could feel the inherent ache.
To find myself amidst it All.
And so.
I was pulled.
In.
Deep.
Where everything always was.
And would be.
Forevermore.

My voice was a howl that tore the curtains.
My steps broke the horizon.
I was everything.
In form.
I was a thunder that woke the hills.
I was the story I longed to tell.
I was.
Chaos and perfection.
I was life.

I could feel the exhale calling to me.
Ready.
To send me to its freedom
When I awoke.
The sun just making itself known through the canopy of sticks above.
I laughed.
Heartily.
As there was nothing else I could do.
But begin to discover.
Who I was to be.

In darkness and density…
