Let me talk to you of mermaids.

Once upon a time.
A long, long time ago.
When the world was very young.
Or maybe I was just very young.
I sat on a rock, at the edge of the ocean.
Wishing to be shown the way to wherever my heart was calling.
I could feel the pull towards…something.
But I could not see.
I could not understand.
What it was.
I ached and cried.
But, it all just fell into the sea.

Perhaps it was the ripples the tears made.
Or the commotion of my dramatic sobs that drew her near.
Still to this day, she has never told me why she appeared before me.
A beauty rising from the water.

I have always been a devotee of whimsy and so I chose to believe my eyes.
But that did not make me any less surprised at her appearance.
I don’t think I closed my mouth until she splashed me with her tail fin.

She beckoned me down to the water.
I sat in the cool shallows while she waded just before me.
It was then that she took my hand and sang to me a prophecy.
A vision of what was possible.
If.
And only if.
I shed the narrow view I held of my life.
Along with the ancient fears of falling into failure.

What she told me I have never told another soul.
But I have let it guide me.
To myself.
To the magic.
To Tsirk Mer.

When my dear circus came into being.
And I along with it.
Cassiopeia decided to come along, on occasion.
She performs the most delicate of water dances, in a pool built to her specifications.
And.
When the moon is just right.
She has been known to sing to the audience.
Telling them of who they can be.
And what keys they need.
To unlock it all.
